Piedmont’s dance program for 5 and 6 year olds helps children build confidence in a warm, encouraging environment, perfect for beginners.
Students learn to listen, follow directions, and take turns, while gentle classroom “performance” moments let them practice and shine—boosting focus and self-assurance without pressure.

Our fundamentals program introduces young dancers to ballet and jazz in a joyful, age-appropriate way that strengthens body awareness, coordination, and control.
Using music and guided routines, children improve balance, refine their movements, and become more comfortable in their bodies—laying the foundation for confident dancing and a lifelong love of movement.

Through simple routines, musical cues, and dance technique, dancers practice paying attention, following directions, and staying engaged for short periods.
These exercises help strengthen focus, self-control, and readiness to learn—skills that carry over into school and everyday life. It's the perfect way to prepare your child for success in elementary school.

Piedmont’s program fosters a warm, welcoming community for our elementary age dancers. Kindergarten aged students have fun and make new friends in our classes.
Through shared movement and music, children learn to make friends, collaborate, and feel confident being part of a group—building social skills and a sense of belonging that extends beyond the classroom.

“Dance has helped Emma grow not just as a dancer, but as a person. She’s more confident and willing to try new things....and she's met the sweetest girls."
— Lauren H., mom of 6-year-old Emma

"I have seen a huge improvement in Olivia's coordination AND listening skills. She loves practicing her dances at home - thanks to the schools at home practice videos. It’s been such a positive experience for Olivia.”
— Amanda L., mom of 5-year-old Olivia

"Harper has absolutely blossomed this year! She’s learning real ballet and tap technique, but what I love most is the confidence she’s gained. She walks into class excited and leaves so proud of herself.”
— Sara R., mom of 6-year-old Harper

Ballet is the foundation of dance training. Students develop strength, coordination, flexibility, and balance by practicing ballet. All dance styles will refer to ballet technique and terminology. Fundamentals classes devote 50% of their instructional time to ballet training.
The remaining class time is divided between tap and jazz dance. In tap classes, students develop rhythm and precision as they learn to move their feet to the beat. Jazz dance training helps students build expression and artistry in their movements.
