Our school offers both in-person and online piano lessons for students of all ages and abilities, from beginners to advanced musicians. We teach a variety of styles, including classical, jazz, and pop. Whether students seek to play for enjoyment or pursue a more serious path, we have a program tailored to their goals.
With a large staff of piano teachers, we match each student with an instructor who best fits their age, ability, and interests. Piano lessons are available starting from age 5, with private, one-on-one instruction designed to meet individual needs.
Students of all levels enjoy voice lessons, exploring a range of genres from pop and jazz to classical arias. Our voice teachers, with university training and performance experience, are dedicated to helping students master techniques such as breathing, range, pitch, projection, and stage presence.
We offer optional recitals with a professional accompanist, providing students the opportunity to showcase their progress and gain valuable performance experience.
Our guitar lessons cover acoustic, electric, and bass guitar in styles such as rock, jazz, classical, pop, Spanish, and chording. Our experienced teachers, who hold music degrees and perform in bands, provide expert instruction in both theory and technique.
We offer personalized, one-on-one lessons tailored to your interests. While students usually start around age 8 due to hand size, younger students can use a junior-sized guitar. Whatever your guitar goals, we have the right teacher for you.
We offer private violin instruction starting as young as 5 years old, catering to students of all ages, from young children to adults. Our students consistently achieve exceptional results in their musical development.
Our skilled violin teachers, who hold degrees from universities or colleges, bring valuable experience from performing with local orchestras and bands. Each one-on-one lesson is customized to address the unique needs and goals of every student, ensuring a personalized and effective learning experience.
Our music recitals provide a wonderful opportunity for you or your child to showcase the results of months of dedication and practice. Designed to minimize stage fright and boost self-esteem, our recitals create a supportive environment for performers.
Students are exposed to a variety of musical styles and instruments, fostering motivation and interest by highlighting the progress of their peers. Our music recitals last between 45 and 60 minutes and features a diverse mix of piano, voice, violin, and guitar.
Adults can begin learning any instrument at any time. Success depends largely on their commitment to regular practice. We have many beginners in their 60s and 70s who thrive with dedication and enthusiasm.
For children, starting at the right age is crucial for a positive learning experience. While some may suggest starting as early as possible, this approach can sometimes be counterproductive. If a child begins lessons too early, they might feel overwhelmed and frustrated, potentially leading to a negative perception of music. It’s important to avoid turning a child away from music due to an unpleasant early experience.
In many cases, waiting until the child is slightly older can lead to quicker and more satisfying progress. Generally, children who start lessons at or after the recommended age do very well. The following guidelines can help determine the most appropriate age for starting music lessons for your child.
Piano/Keyboard
We begin private piano lessons for children as young as 5 years old. At this age, they have developed the attention span and retention abilities necessary for successful learning.
Guitar – Acoustic, Electric, and Bass
We recommend starting guitar lessons at age 8. Playing guitar requires pressing down on strings, which can be uncomfortable for younger children with smaller hands. Bass guitar lessons are generally suited for students aged 10 and older.
Voice Lessons
The recommended starting age for private vocal lessons is 8. Due to the physical demands of voice training—such as proper breathing techniques and vocal chord development— younger children may not be ready for these challenges.
Violin
We accept violin students starting at age 5. Although some programs begin as early as age 3, we have found that students age 5 and older are more likely to benefit from violin instruction.
Learning music involves more than just having a qualified teacher; it requires an environment dedicated to music education. In a professional music school, distractions such as TV, pets, ringing phones, or siblings are eliminated, ensuring that students can focus solely on their lessons. With only 30 minutes to an hour of lesson time each week, a focused environment maximizes the effectiveness of each session.
Students benefit from being surrounded by peers at various levels and having access to a range of musical instruments. In a music school, lessons are treated with the utmost seriousness, and the commitment to teaching is central to the school's mission, not just a secondary activity for the instructor.
Improving in music, like any skill, requires consistent practice. One common challenge with music lessons is maintaining a regular practice routine and overcoming the daily struggle between parents and students. Here are some strategies to make practicing more manageable:
Establish a Routine
Set a specific time each day for practice to help it become a regular part of the daily routine. This approach is particularly effective for children. Practicing earlier in the day often reduces the need for reminders from parents.
Use Repetition
Instead of focusing on a set amount of time, structure practice sessions around repetition. For instance, have the child practice a piece four times and a scale five times each day. This method shifts the focus from the duration of practice to the completion of specific tasks, making it easier for young students to manage.
Incorporate Rewards
Rewards can be motivating for both children and adults. Adults might treat themselves to a cappuccino after a productive week, while parents can offer occasional rewards to encourage consistent practice in children. At our school, young students earn stars and stickers for their efforts, and praise is a highly valued reward. Remember, it's normal to have weeks with less practice, but there’s always an opportunity to get back on track the following week.
There are excellent resources created by professional music educators to support students at various stages and needs. For instance, in piano, there are specialized books for very young beginners as well as for adult learners who are new to playing. These materials allow students to start at a level that matches their current skills and comfort.
Continuously updated and improved, these resources ensure a comprehensive learning experience, covering all essential aspects of the instrument. Should you relocate, qualified teachers and institutions across the country will recognize these materials, allowing for a seamless continuation of your musical education.
Music should be a lifelong joy, so avoid setting unrealistic expectations for yourself or your children to learn too quickly. Everyone progresses at their own pace, and the most important thing is to enjoy the journey.
